Chickens, nurses, maids and rastafarians all suited up and made the trek down to Munny Sokol for Velocity Procycle and Druid City Bicycle club’s Spooktacular cross race on Sunday. Mark Simpson laid a course of pain for all takers. Starting the day off was the masters 35+ where DMac and Staubach engaged in their little battle until Scott had to pit for an adjustment. He was able to close the gap back down, but DMac had to much throttle once again. Peter Dudle was right there and looks to be improving. The masters 45+ race was won by Larry Stanley, showing his superior technical skills. Matt Holdbrooks and Rob Hope were applying the pressure for 2nd and 3rd.
The womens 4 race saw Kate Stribling flying the BICI coop flag for 1st place with Kristin Tippey and Mary Ellen Mattison coming in 2nd and 3rd. Natalie Smith cruised to victory in the women’s 1/2/3 race with Maaike Everts and Alex Martinez in 2nd and 3rd.
Will Faulk is just unstoppable in the junior men’s race, but had some competition from Hill Balliet who is trying cyclocross for the first time. Campbell Holley came in strong at 3rd. Kristyn Carroll won her first BAMACROSS race taking home the junior girls with Georgia Dussich and Savannah Meredith nipping at her heels.
Men’s 4 saw a very strong display by Brad Hood who took an early lead and powered it home for the W. Anthony Payne and Ross Porter were engaged in a tight race that came right down to the end with Anthony holding on for 2nd and Ross getting the 3rd step.
(Portland upgrades will be assessed this week boys – 3 tops 3′s gets you in the big show).
The 1/2/3 race was a battle from beginning to end with Brandon Curtis, Omar Fraser and Scott Staubach locked in from the gun. Brandon and Omar were alone halfway through the 53 min contest and it came down to a sprint finish with Brandon crushing the 200 meter effort.
A big thanks goes out to Mark, Gina, Ashley and the whole Velocity/Druid City team effort to pull off this great event!
Sloss Cross, see you Sunday.
